Beat the Heat. Tips to Stay Properly Hydrated

Parts of Canada and the US are getting pounded by heat.  Staying properly hydrated is crucial.  During extreme heat your body has to work harder to maintain normal functioning.

Perspiration is one of the ways your body eliminates water. When the amount of water your body eliminates exceeds your water intake you are dehydrated.  Dehydration puts your body into stress mode making it even more difficult for your body to function properly.

The biggest myth when it comes to proper hydration is that all fluids hydrate.  Many of the fluids we drink are either acidic to our body or they further dehydrate the body.  Water is the main element your body needs to thrive.

Here are a couple of tips you can use to help you stay properly hydrated when it is hot.

Tip # 1

To calculate how much water you should be drinking divide your weight by 2. This is the number of oz. of water your body needs every day.  To convert this into milliliters multiply the number of oz by 30.

Weight   135 lbs/2=67.5 oz.

67.5 ox * 30=2025 mls.  or just over 2 litres.

This needs to be adjusted to account for caffeine intake or excessive perspiration.

Tip #2

Salt is water’s companion.   Your body needs to have salt when drinking water to help the body retain the water you are drinking.

¼ tsp. per litre/quart of water.

If you are on a salt restricted diet please consult with your physician first.

Unrefined sea salt is best.

Tip #3

There are many ways to monitor your level of hydration.  The body has developed a sophisticated system of telling you it needs more water. Urine is the best and easiest visual indicator.  It should be clear.  (Remember the colour of your urine in the toilet will be diluted by the water in the toilet bowl.  Keep this in mind.  If you had to pee in the proverbial cup, your urine would look much darker.

Using these three tips is a good start to staying properly hydrated during these heat waves.

Living Your Life in the Miracle Zone

Do Things That Make Your Spirit Sing!

Water and helping people thrive are my two passions.  Water aligns our body, mind and Spirit in perfect harmony allowing what is in our highest good to come forth.  I call it “Living Your Life in the Miracle Zone™”

Usually in my blogs I write about water and health.  Today I want to share an experience with you I had yesterday that is such a great example of what happens when you Live Your Life in the Miracle Zone™.

I was invited to supply water at a movie screening of “I Am” by Tom Shadyac.  The movie is fantastic and I highly recommend seeing it. Tom chronicles his journey of searching for his legacy by questioning what is wrong with our world.   He instead discovers what is right with our world.  It is a compelling and inspirational film that explores how interconnected we are and how just one small act has a tremendous impact.

At the end of the screening we gave away some door prizes.  I got up to draw a name for our Love & Gratitude water bottle.  As the winner came up to claim her prize I was stunned.  As she gave me a hug I whispered in her ear; “do you drive a black convertible”.  “Yes”, she replied, utterly confused by my question.

I decided that sharing the story of this woman would be a fitting end to an evening that was about how connected we really are.

A week ago I had been out doing errand and missed my turn.  Instead of turning around, I decided to run another errand that was in the area and hit the other spot on my way home.

As I was stopped at a set of lights I could hear a woman singing.  I looked over to see a woman with the most infection smile, singing her heart out and looking at my dog whose head was out the window watching her.

My energy changed immediately and I started to laugh.  She was so in the moment. She didn’t care who was listening to her sing, she was just singing her heart out.  “Wow” I thought.  I might do that with my windows rolled up while I am driving but not when I am stopped and other people can see me.  Let alone in a convertible!

I finished my errand with a smile on my face thinking about her.  As I pulled out to leave, there she was again.  She had finished what she was doing and she was leaving as well.  We smiled at each other and waved.

This is the woman who won my water bottle!  As I started to share this story with everyone she gasped as soon as I said I was driving around in my SUV the other day with my dog.  She got it.  She remembered!

We were totally brought together by the Universe working its magic!  Our encounter while out driving was indeed Divine timing.  Her showing up a week later at the same event and winning my door prize was astonishing.

This is such a wonderful example of being in alignment and of the magic the Universe creates on your behalf. The amount of planning and orchestrating of events the Universe had to pull off to make that happen is astounding.   At the very least, it probably started when Debra and I started our day.  For me to take a wrong turn, for us to meet at the traffic light, for me to notice her and for her to notice my dog, for our errands to be completed at the same time all required Divine Timing indeed.

Often we think of miracles as some huge monumental moment.  Miracles come in all shapes and sizes.  Debra and I still don’t know why we were meant to meet and we have yet to explore that.  It might be something amazing or as simple as her needing a new water bottle.  You never know what is going to happen when you simple show up and are present to what is around you.

What experiences have you had with Divine Timing that rocked your world?

This is the trailer for the movie.

In Memory of Steven Jobs

Did You Give Your All to Today?

Hello everyone.  Today I am veering from my normal style of blogging to dedicate this blog to great people who have changed our lives and our world by daring to believe in themselves, follow their intuition and learn from their failures.

Hilton, a dear friend of mine sent me an email this morning of Steve Jobs speaking at Stanford University Graduation where he shared stories from his life experience.  He spoke of his very public failure of being fired from Apple. He also spoke of living each day as if you are dying.  Each day he would look in the mirror and ask himself; “if this was my last day on earth, would I be doing what I am about to do”?  If he got a “no”, he would then consider another course of action.

I share this pearl of wisdom with you today as I too wish for everyone that they live each day to their full potential and stop putting things off for “some day”.

We often look at people who we deem in our own way as being successful and see them as somehow different from ourselves.  That is so far from the truth.  Many of these great people started from humble roots and simply followed their passion and their own inner guidance.  Nothing complicated about that.

I then watched a speech delivered by J.K. R0wling who spoke about her own complete and utter failure and how that experience freed her from conforming to other people’s expectations of what she should do with her life to following the path she always knew she was meant to follow… writing.

Having gone through my own dark miserable time in what I call the “Pit”, where there was not even a pin prick of light to guide my way out, I too believe that it was the best thing that could have happened to me.   Being in the pit sucked! I was lost, I was alone, and everything I believed in and knew to be true was dismantled in a very brutal and traumatic way.  While I don’t wish that experience on anybody I will say that the experience of feeling like I lost everything was the new beginning I didn’t even know I needed.

It was very humbling time, full of tears of despair and disbelief.  A time of deep soul searching and reflection.  Had I not reached that depth of despair I probably would never have done the work of deconstructing all the “should haves” I was lead to believe my life was about. It was on my journey of climbing out of my pit that the inspiration for Infinite Soulutions was born and my whole life began to change.  I had finally given myself permission to do things my way and to follow my own intuition.  Even in business as I listen to the “experts” talk about how to run a successful business, I am guided more by my intuition (my Source) as only my Source knows what is right for me.

Sadly, Steve Jobs is no longer will us. He was a man who has inspired millions to think outside the box, to rise from failures and remain committed to living a passionate life.

It is your health, your body mind and Spirit that carries you on your own path of living your passion, following your bliss and trusting your intuition.  Don’t put your health off for “someday”.

Your health starts with proper hydration.  So many people are dehydrated because of what they are drinking and unknowingly have put their body’s and therefore their life into survival mode.

You are meant to thrive, not survive.  Your body needs proper hydration so it can thrive! Remember the Infinite Wisdom that created your body designed it to thrive with water as the main essential ingredient.   A body that is chronically dehydrated is a body that stopped thriving.  You simply can’t be healthy and thriving when you are dehydrated.

I dare all of you to live your truth, your passion. Be brave enough to disregard what other’s think you should do and do what your heart tells you to do.  Just take that first step and you will be amazed at the doors that open for you.

When I stared Infinite Soulutions the idea was to sell water bottles.  I knew how much proper hydration impacts our health.  I knew I wanted to sell high quality bottles that were safe and healthy for people and I wanted them to be environmentally friendly. That was all I knew at the time.

I thought my biggest challenge was going to be educating people on why they should switch to good quality stainless steel bottles.  I had no money, only an overwhelming feeling that I wanted to do this for other people.  A week before we launched Infinite Soulutions at a trade show, BPA was all over the media.  Thank you Universe!  My marketing campaign had been taken care of for me, far beyond my wildest imagination!  I have never looked back since.  I just take one step forward at a time.

I would love to hear what living the life of your dreams means to you.  I encourage you to share your words of wisdom so we might inspire others to live their dreams.

I would also like to know if this is too far off my normal blogging about water, health and hydration or if this style of writing is more beneficial to you.

I am here to share my knowledge and to serve you the best way I can.

                          Hydration Tip for the Day

Proper Hydration:

  • Fluid intake does not equal proper hydration
  • Your body needs 8-10 cups of water a day to replace the water it eliminates.
  • How much water are you drinking?
  • How much water are your kids drinking?

What you Didn’t Know about how Dehydration Affects Your Health.

    Dehydration and Illness

In our last blog we spoke about what dehydration is.  Today we are going to take that one step further and give you information about why dehydration affects your health.

You now understand that your body needs a daily injection of pure water each day to function properly.  So let’s look at some of the things that happen in your body when it does not get enough water.

For starters you are operating at a sub optimal state.  You are already behind the “eight ball” so to speak if you are dehydrated.  Since 96% of North Americans are dehydrated chances are you may be dehydrated too.

Your body is made up of 60 trillion cells all needing water to function properly.  Your organs, your brain – everything in your body depends.  When your cells are plump and juicy, (like a plume) they can do their job. When they are deprived of water they cannot  (a dried up prune).   Pretty simple concept, right?

So what does that mean to you and your health?  Your body, particularly your brain is very smart.  Since it cannot store water it has devised a survival strategy – pull water from cells that are considered less essential.  One of the first places water is pulled from is your skin.  That is why proper hydration will do more for preventing wrinkles than any miracle product on the market.  Remember the plume vs. the prune.

Pulling water from the same cells on a continual basis means they will eventually stop working.

The easiest analogy is a plant.  You know a plant needs water when its leaves start to droop.  If you water it in time, the leaves will plump right back up.  If you leave it too long, the leaves will turn yellow, then brown and crispy at which point the cells in that leaf are dead.  No amount of watering will bring them back.  You have no choice but to cut those leaves off.  Unless you take care of your plant and water it regularly, all the leaves will eventually turn yellow and die.

The cells in your body work pretty much the same way.  You can’t see what is happening in your body but it gives you signals you can listen to so you know when it needs water.

Your body talks to you all the time to tell you it needs more water but most people don’t understand the messages. Log onto

Beat the 3 0′clock Energy Lull

                          Hydration Tip for the Day

By the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated.  Drink frequently throughout the day, not just when you feel thirsty.  This will get you on track to being properly hydrated.

Increase Your Brilliance, Maintain Your Resilience

Do Things That Make Your Spirit Sing!

Need More Energy to get Through Your Day?

Learn Why Dehydration Affect Your Energy Levels

We all know there are things we should be doing because they are good for us.  Does that mean you do them?

We all know there are things we shouldn’t be doing because they are bad for us.  Does that mean you stop doing them?

The same can be said for water.  Most people know they “should” drink more water but most people, 96% of us are not getting enough.

One of the first signs of dehydration is low energy levels or lulls in your energy levels.  To boost your energy levels it is important to understand what dehydration really is and conversely, what proper hydration really is.

Let’s start with understanding how water works in your body.  Every cell and organ in your body depends on a daily allotment of water so they can do the jobs they are meant to do.  When your body does not get enough water, your cells and organs cannot do the job their job properly which means you are operating from a sub optimal state.

 Pretty simple right?

If your body can’t its job properly, how can you do your job properly?  When your body is properly hydrated it is operating at maximum efficiency and so are you.  That is when you are the rock star!

96% of North Americans are chronically dehydrated and don’t know it.  It is understandable since there are so many beverages to choose from.  You may have a relatively high fluid intake, unfortunately, your body was not designed to thrive on daily injections of caffeine, juice, milk etc. While they may increase your fluid intake, they are not hydrating you.

Every time you drink something that is not pure simple water, and every time you eat, your body goes through the process of breaking the contents down.  It uses water to do this.  When you drink pure water, there is nothing that has to be digested and therefore the water is free to be used for hydration.

You are not a camel so you don’t have a mechanism to store water for later use.  In fact, your body will eliminate 8-10 cups of water per day.  If you do not replenish the water is eliminated daily you are dehydrated. Chronic dehydration is when you consistently or chronically don’t drink 8-10 cups of water per day.

Fatigue is one of the first signs of dehydration.  If you want more energy, don’t drink energy drinks, drink water.

Take a few minutes now and write down everything you drank today.  Pay attention to what you are drinking at different times in the day.  We would love to hear your results.  Some people are shocked to realize they aren’t drinking even one glass of water per day.

Our next blog post will explore more signs of dehydration so you can learn to understand your body’s messages for water.

Stainless Steel Water Bottles Part III – What You Need to Know

So far we have covered the proper grade of stainless steel for water bottles and some of the things to be aware of when buying painted bottles.  Today we are going to talk a bit about internal liners in bottles, aluminum bottles and the differences in how some companies label their bottles. i.e. food grade, surgical stainless steel, FDA approved.

So why do some bottles have internal liners and some don’t?

Here is the inside scoop!

Internal liners are used with aluminum bottles to protect from exposure to aluminum.  There are health concerns related to the amount of aluminum found in the brain in Alzheimer patients. I am not here to weigh in on this debate.

Since the Infinite Wisdom that designed our bodies did not design them with aluminum in the brain, I do not need any more scientific research when I make the choice of what type of bottle I am going to drink from.

Personally, I don’t want to drink from a bottle that has any kind of chemical liner as I don’t want anything to leach into my water.

If you do have an aluminum bottle please check your liner consistently for any cracks or pit marks in the liner to prevent any exposure to the aluminum beneath it.

Stainless steel on the other hand has a well proven track record for safety.  Stainless steel is used in the medical field because of its safety and durability.  Having said that, surgical grade stainless steel or FDA approved stainless steel is not the reassurance you want for your water bottle.

As mentioned in Part I of this series you want “L” grade stainless steels.  L grade is also the stainless steel you want to use if you are using your water bottle with: chlorinated water, fruit juice, vitamin C tablets, magnesium tablets etc.

304L will withstand possible corrosion from these liquids better than lower grades of stainless steel.

The bottom line is, buy from a trusted source.  We are arming you will lots of questions you can ask your retailer.  If they cannot answer them, you may not want to buy from them.

You won’t find this quality of bottles in your discount store or from a promotional company.

                          Hydration Tip for the Day

Cleaning Tip.  If you cannot get black marks or foul odours out of your bottle by soaking it in white vinegar and water it may be time to get a new bottle.  Pit marks, foul, funky odours and metal taste should not be apparent after cleaning with vinegar and water and could be signs of corrosion, oxidization or simply inferior stainless steel and or due to the liner in the aluminum bottles.  Remember to inspect your bottle regularly if it is not an L grade stainless steel or if it is aluminum.

Stainless Steel Water Bottles – Part II of What You Need to Know

Stainless Steel Water Bottles Part II of What You Need to Know.

In Part I of this series we talked about the proper grade of stainless steel for water bottles.  Most bottles on the market are not using the grade of stainless steel that is recommended.  (See blog post May 5, 2011)

Even though the Canadian government declared BPA a Toxic substance – the chemical found in PET water bottles many consumers don’t have all the facts when it comes to what they need to know when buying stainless steel water bottles.

Today we are going to talk about the “pretty” bottles vs. the safe bottles.

Here is the inside scoop!

There are two methods for applying colour to bottles.  One is paint and the other uses an electrolyses method of applying a powder colour to stainless steel water bottles.

The first thing you need to know about painted bottles is that they are not primed first.  Paint does not adhere long term to bottles that are not primed first.  If you put a painted bottle in the dishwasher the paint will peel right off the bottles.  Painted bottles often look very pretty but soon with scratch, chip, and peel leaving your once pretty bottle looking… well, less than desirable.

The second thing you need to know about painted bottles is that it is up to the company who is supplying the bottles to request non-lead paint.  Lead paint is used by default.  Non-lead paint is certainly available however it is more expensive.  Don’t assume that every supplier has requested non-lead paint.

If you are buying a painted bottle, look for information on the bottle about the type of paint that is used.  If you cannot find any information you may want to pass.

A bottle with a stainless steel finish is the safest choice when in doubt about the type of paint used on the bottle.

The second most widely used method of applying colour to bottles can pose serious health risks to the workers who are applying the colour.  Is a pretty bottle really worth putting others at risk?

                          Hydration Tip for the Day

Your body is 70% water.  The water bottle you choose to drink from has a tremendous impact on your health.  Choose wisely and your body will love you for it.

Stainless Steel Water Bottles – The most important thing the ratings leave out and why you need to know this.

Google stainless steel water bottles on the internet and you will find all shapes, sizes, colours and people blogging about comparisons.

Here’s the thing folks.  Most of the ratings and comparisons say nothing about the grade of stainless steel that is supposed to be used!

None of them tell you if the bottle is going to taste like metal or why bottles can get a foul, funky odour which is a complete turnoff.

Let’s face it we all want a bottle that we will drink from. We want our water to taste fresh and clean.  We want to know it is safe for our families and eco-friendly.

Here is the real scoop!

304L or even 316L grade stainless steel is what you should be buying. The “L” is what is significant.

The “L” is what is recommended by top metallurgists for water bottles.  This means that 18/8 or 304 is not the grade of stainless steel you want.

Stainless steel water bottles taste like metal and get foul, funky odours for several reasons namely corrosion and oxidization.

Oxidization occurs most often when two types of metals are used.  Corrosion mainly occurs with inferior grades of stainless steel.

The “L” factor in stainless steel denotes a grade of stainless steel designed for the highest resistance to corrosion.

This means you get two things.  Higher quality steel which means no metal taste.  Your water will taste fresh and clean.  Two, your bottle should not corrode meaning no foul, funky odours, black spots or pitting which are all signs of inferior stainless steel.

304L or 316L grade stainless steel is more expensive but well worth the money.  You shouldn’t have to replace your bottle for years to come thus saving you a huge amount of money and time wasted on the trial and error method.

Let us know if you found this information helpful.

In our next series of blogs we will be talking about what FDA, food grade, and surgical stainless steel mean.  We will also give you the inside scoop on painted bottles, aluminum bottles and why there is such a range is prices.

                          Hydration Tip for the Day

By the time your brain lets you know you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.  Your body has 60 trillion cells, each with a job to do and each needing a specific amount of water to do their job every day.  Pure clean water is what they are designed to work with.  Other liquids don’t feed your cells.  96% of North Americans on chronically dehydrated.  Are you one of them?

Prayer for Japan’s Water Today!

Dr Emoto  and his work with water is what inspired me to create Infinite Soulutions.  Today I would like to honour this man and the work he is doing by passing along his request that we all join in, in prayer today at noon for the water in Japan.

the copy of his email, prayer and prayer instructions. I hope you can find a few minutes at noon to be part of this wonderful prayer for the healing of this water.  I don’t have the gift of being able to see energy but I can only imagine how beautiful it would be to see all love and energy worldwide that will be sent to this water.

 In light and love

Barb Doran

A letter from Dr Masaru Emoto…

To All People Around the World,

Please send your prayers of love and gratitude to water at the nuclear plants in Fukushima , Japan !

By the massive earthquakes of Magnitude 9 and surreal massive tsunamis, more than 10,000 people are still missing…even now… It has been 16 days already since the disaster happened. What makes it worse is that water at the reactors of Fukushima Nuclear Plants started to leak, and it’s contaminating the ocean, air and water molecule of surrounding areas.

Human wisdom has not been able to do much to solve the problem, but we are only trying to cool down the anger of radioactive materials in the reactors by discharging water to them.

Is there really nothing else to do?

I think there is. During over twenty year research of hado measuring and water crystal photographic technology, I have been witnessing that water can turn positive when it receives pure vibration of human prayer no matter how far away it is.

Energy formula of Albert Einstein, E=MC2 really means that Energy = number of people and the square of people’s consciousness.

Now is the time to understand the true meaning. Let us all join the prayer ceremony as fellow citizens of the planet earth. I would like to ask all people, not just in Japan , but all around the world to please help us to find a way out the crisis of this planet!!
The prayer procedure is as follows.

Day and Time:
March 31st, 2011 (Thursday)
12:00 noon in each time zone

Please say the following phrase:

“The water of Fukushima Nuclear Plant,
we are sorry to make you suffer.
Please forgive us. We thank you, and we love you.”

Please say it aloud or in your mind. Repeat it three times as you put your hands together in a prayer position. Please offer your sincere prayer.

Thank you very much from my heart.

With love and gratitude,
Masaru Emoto
Messenger of Water

                          Hydration Tip for the Day

Blessing your water before you drink it is a wonderful way to give your body beautiful healing energy.  Love and gratitude is a very high vibration and you can easily infuse your water with that energy by either holding your water bottle and spending a couple of minutes in a state of love and gratitude with the intention to send that energy to your water, or you can get words and put it on your bottle.  ( has water proof decals so you can put them on your bottles)
